These terms are the agreement between you and Massimo Meert ("we", "us") for using Lardon, the family cookbook app, and this website. By creating an account or using Lardon, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Lardon. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
The short version
- Your recipes and photos stay yours. We only use them to run Lardon.
- Everyone in a family can see, change and delete the family's recipes.
- Only add content you have the right to share, and be kind to others.
- Recipes come from people like you: check them for allergies and food safety.
- You can delete your account at any time. You keep all your rights under consumer law.
1. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to use Lardon. If you're under 18, ask a parent or guardian before you use it.
- An account is for one person. Use your real name so your family recognises you.
- You sign in with a code sent to your email, or with Apple or Google. Keep access to them secure, since anyone who can read your email can sign in to Lardon. If you think someone else has used your account, email us straight away.
- If you sign in with Apple or Google, their own terms also apply to that sign-in.
2. Families
A family is a shared cookbook. You can create one, or join one with an invite code from a member.
- Every member can see the family's name, its members and their roles, can see, add, change and delete the family's recipes, and can invite new members. Only invite people you trust.
- Owners can also rename the family, remove members, change members' roles and delete the family with all its recipes. If the last owner leaves, another member becomes an owner.
- When you leave a family or delete your account, the recipes you added to the family stay with it. When the last member leaves, the family and its recipes are deleted.
3. Your recipes and photos
You keep ownership of the recipes, photos and other content you add to Lardon. You give us permission to store, copy, process and show that content, only as needed to run Lardon for you and your families. We don't sell it, use it for advertising, publish it or use it to train AI models.
When you add a recipe to a family, you also let its members view, cook from, change and keep it in Lardon, even after you leave the family or delete your account. If you don't want a family to keep a recipe, delete it before you leave.
Only add content you have the right to share. A family recipe or a recipe written in your own words is fine. Copying photos or the full text of a recipe from a cookbook or website usually isn't, unless you have permission: add a link to the source instead.
4. Acceptable use
Don't use Lardon to:
- break the law or infringe other people's rights, including copyright and privacy;
- share content that is abusive, hateful, sexual, violent or otherwise harmful;
- harass, threaten or impersonate anyone;
- send spam or advertise to the people in your families;
- try to access other people's accounts, families or data;
- upload malware, overload or disrupt Lardon, get around its limits or security, or access it with bots or scrapers;
- resell Lardon, or use the app or its code in ways its licence doesn't allow.
5. Reporting content
If you find content in Lardon that is illegal or breaks these terms, email info@lardon.app. Tell us where it is, why you think it's a problem, your name and email (unless you're reporting child sexual abuse material), and confirm that your report is accurate and complete to the best of your knowledge. We'll confirm we received it, look into it carefully and tell you what we decided.
We don't read your recipes, and we don't use automated tools to moderate content: a person reviews every report. If we remove your content or restrict your account, we'll tell you what we did, which law or rule in these terms it's based on and the facts we relied on. You can reply within 6 months to ask us to reconsider, and we'll answer within 14 days. You can also go to court. If we learn of content suggesting a threat to someone's life or safety, we'll tell the authorities.
Our single point of contact under the EU Digital Services Act, for users, authorities, the European Commission and the European Board for Digital Services, is info@lardon.app. You can write to us in English or French.
6. Cooking safely
Recipes in Lardon are written by its users, not by us, and we don't check them. Nutrition information is an estimate. Before you cook, check ingredients for allergies and dietary needs, and follow safe food handling and cooking temperatures. Lardon doesn't give medical or dietary advice.
7. Lardon and its code
Lardon is free. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the app and our service for yourself and your families. The Lardon name, app and design belong to us. If we ever add paid features, we'll show you the price and the conditions before you pay anything.
Lardon's source code is public under the PolyForm Strict License 1.0.0. That licence, not these terms, sets what you can do with the code: you can read it and use it for noncommercial purposes, but you can't change it, share copies of it or use it commercially.
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them to improve Lardon without owing you anything.
8. Changes to Lardon
We work to keep Lardon available and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. Keep your own copies of recipes that matter to you.
We improve Lardon over time and may change or remove features, for example to fix problems, keep it secure or follow the law. If a change makes Lardon significantly worse for you, we'll tell you by email in advance, and you can delete your account at no cost within 30 days. If we ever stop running Lardon, we'll tell you by email at least 30 days before it closes, so you can ask us for a copy of your recipes.
9. Ending your account
You can stop using Lardon at any time and delete your account in the app under Settings, then Delete account. If you can't sign in, email info@lardon.app instead. See the Privacy Policy for what happens to your data.
We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if the law requires it. Unless it would put others at risk or the law forbids it, we'll warn you first and tell you why, and you can reply to contest our decision.
10. Liability
We're responsible for death or personal injury caused by our fault, for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, and for anything else the law doesn't let us exclude. Otherwise, as far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect losses, for content other users add, or for losing content because of force majeure, such as a disaster at our hosting provider. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under consumer protection law.
11. If you got Lardon from the App Store
- These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for Lardon and for any claims about it, including product liability, consumer protection, legal compliance and intellectual property claims.
- You may use Lardon on Apple devices you own or control, as allowed by Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- We, not Apple, provide maintenance and support for Lardon. Apple has no obligation to provide any.
- If Lardon doesn't work as promised, you can tell Apple, which will refund any price you paid for it. Apple has no other warranty obligation for Lardon.
- You confirm that you aren't in a country under a US government embargo and aren't on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use Lardon, such as your mobile data plan.
- Apple and its subsidiaries can enforce these terms against you.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when Lardon changes or the law requires it. We'll update the date at the top, and for important changes, we'll let you know by email and in the app at least 30 days before they apply. If you don't agree, you can delete your account at no cost before then.
13. Disputes and law
If something goes wrong, email us first, and we'll do our best to sort it out with you. If we can't, you can contact the Belgian Consumer Mediation Service.
These terms are governed by Belgian law. If you live elsewhere in the European Union, you keep the protection of your own country's consumer laws and can bring a claim in your local courts.
If part of these terms turns out to be invalid, the rest still applies.
